The Virginia Charter [REVISION]

Author: King James to his entrepreneurs and settlers in North America. Although it is not clear who took charge of this document as the author, King James is mentioned continuously throughout the document, and after research, it is overall known that King James formed the Virginia Company for North America.( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charter_of_1606)

Audience: anyone and everyone involved in the Virginia Company. The leaders and the settlers of North America that were related to England, and under King Jame's authority.

Tone: Very strict and professional. King James was also very assertive when assigning this document to his people in North America.

Purpose: To inform the people of the colonies of Virginia. To inform them how to engage as a community on a daily basis. To set rules and a basis for the people to live off of. I believe that King James also wanted to assure them safety and strength to be able to carry on English living in a whole new world.

Persuasive--Ethos, Pathos & Logos
ETHOS: Because this is business and professional information, Emotion cannot be too involved. The document is quite stern and straight to the point, and does not give the audience a chance to engage on how they feel.

PATHOS: This piece of writing was written by high officials, giving the document much respect and opportunity even before knowing what the document has to say.

LOGOS: Relating to this document logically, it was beneficial for King James to enforce a basic foundation of rules and requirements to live by in North America. Having the people live in sync and in organization helped them grow in the New World so much more and stronger.

The Virginia Charter, 1606.

The author of the Virginia Charter is King James and his entrepreneurs from England to North America. The audience of this document is the new settlers in North America. The tone of this document is very repetitive and assertive. The purpose of this piece is to inform the people and the leaders of North America of rules and authorization they have to live by. The document is persuasive because the author is very stern as he directs all the rules. The way he presents the document, gives the people no choice but to follow. King James takes the English lifestyles and patterns of London and tries to carry it over to North America, attempting to expand England's growth for his country.

THEY SAY/ I SAY Template

My own view is that the way the Spaniards treated the Natives was completely horrible. Though I concede that the Spaniards were there to take over and conquer new land, I still maintain that torturing the innocent people was very unjustified. For example, he mentions how the Spaniards "snatched young Babes from the Mother's Breast, and then dasht out the brains of those innocents against the rocks;..". Although some might object that it was acceptable for the Spaniards actions, I reply that it was highly intolerable for mankind to allow such wicked activity. The issue is important because the history of such cruelty should not be repeated and should be prevented as much as possible.

My Writing Philosophy

What is my writing philosophy?
I personally feel like i have not been able to grasp the full ability of my writing philosophy...yet. I feel like I have so much to learn about my writing philosophy and I am really looking forward to it. There is a part of a definition of Philosophy I read that states "the critical study of the basic principles and concepts of a particular branch of knowledge, especially with a view to improving or reconstituting them". The bold part really intrigues me because I have always thought of ways of improvement, ways of strengthening my writing skills. Writing is a form of art, it opens up imagination and ideas that you are able to put to paper. Writing develops understanding for both the author and the audience.
"Blogging" is a form of art in itself as we write on here to express how we feel, to go in depth to any extent we want, while reaching anyone all over the world. That's just awesome.
My Personal Experience with My Writing Philosophy.
Growing up, I didn't always have the perfect household. Of course everyone has there trials and problems in life. When I was younger and experiencing these family issues, my natural instinct was to hide it away in a journal, to put my deepest feelings and secrets to paper. I wrote in journals for years--about everything.Writing develops a better understanding from many angles. When my father had found my journals and mischievously read through them, he was able to relate to me better, knowing what was going through my head and how I felt about the same issues that he was going through as well. I have really learned that once I started realizing my writing philosophy, I experienced self growth and self actualization. I say this because everyone has a million thoughts running through their heads and when you write, your able to actually grasp some of those intense thoughts and its an interesting experience.
Writing is giving and receiving information that you can be compelled to share with others; whether it be emotional, intellectual, or spiritual.
Writing is a world of its own.

PSEC Essay

Be the Change You Wish to See in the World
Be the Change You Wish to See in the WorldWhen looking back on my life so far, I would have to say that spending time to care for others is one of the valuable and best experiences I have had. There is a very large percentage of people throughout the world that spend all their lives on themselves only. They do things that please them; to look better, feel better, and do better. For me, I tend to find pleasure in other people, not just myself.

I recently volunteered to help run a daycare program for inner city, disadvantaged young children. I was among a group of leaders that ran the daycare. Everyday we were there for the young children. We had a lot going on from teaching them how to read, playing all types of fun and positive games and sports, cooking and feeding lunch, and over all trying to be great role models for them to look up to. The young children enjoyed the camp and looked forward to it everyday. I also looked forward to going to camp everyday because I knew I was a positive role model in several lives.
Being the oldest sibling of three, I have learned that someone is always watching what you are doing. I also have older siblings I look up to as role models in my life. No matter what position people are in for life, everyone has some sort of influence in the world. This will affect my contribution to Puget Sound Early College because this is an experience for me to learn how to be a positive attribute to the students around me. I strive for an optimistic lifestyle and want to continue to be a positive role model anywhere and everywhere I go.

English Composition as a Happening

English Composition as a Happening
By Charles Deemer

Author's main idea :
Deemer starts out his article with the definition of Education. Throughout the article, Deemer goes into depth with Western Education as is; its flaws, downfalls, and most aspects that keep naive American writers narrow minded. The author mentions the distance between a "teacher" and their students. Students have little or no interest in the education given [partial] blame to the "teachers". For the most part, teachers have a go-through-the-motion mentality, just following the rubric given to them.Deemer is very clear on how teachers should be. As a teacher, they have the responsibility to step up to the plate as a Leader, as a positive role model. Instead its like they are showing up everyday to school--like the students--because they have to. Writing is not just another subject that will vaguely tag along in the back of our brains when remembering the good ol' days of school. Instead, English composition opens up possibilities to creating our lives, our ideas, and our futures. English composition opens up realization of our past and our present. Writing opens up our creative imagination more than most that we will experience in life. How can that even start to occur if students are not able to start a foundation in their own classroom. It simply does not form adequately. Deemer informs that education should be done in the right manner. In order for that to happen, teachers, universities, and their education would have to start all over from scratch.
Deemer significantly supports his position in a handful of ways. One way is obvious as he uses common sense to support his writing. He mentions plainly how it is on a regular basis in a basic classroom. He also supports his position with brilliant quotes from various intelligence of authors.
